TAUNTON OFFERS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY for development partners to significantly contribute towards the economic and environmentally responsible regeneration of the town.

Over the next decade, this will comprise, the construction of approximately 14,000 new homes, 200,000 m2 (2million ft2) of employment space and 50,000 m2 (500,000 ft2) of new retail space, creating approx.11,500 jobs.

The town is identified as a primary urban growth point and a strategically significant town (SSCT) within the emerging Regional Spatial Strategy.

To ensure our aims are met, Project Taunton has set up a series of rigorous measures to check outputs and provide support to developers at all stages of the town's regeneration.

Project Taunton requires development partners to embrace and demonstrate commitment to the delivery of the key regeneration areas to an exemplary standard of sustainability.

The forthcoming opportunities within the Firepool, Cultural Quarter, Tangier and Retail areas are the first phase of the delivery of the revitalisation of Taunton.

It is therefore critical to the successful long term renaissance of the town that the initial phases demonstrate environmentally responsible design of exceptional quality.

Ultimately we aim to see Taunton establish itself as a regional and national centre of excellence for the delivery of ambitious sustainable development.
